How Do I Choose a Rehab Center

Below are some important factors to consider before deciding on a rehab facility. When the time comes, we want to help you or your loved one find the right care at Mile High Recovery Center. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us to start the conversation.

Understand Your Goals for Rehab

When you make the decision to go to rehab, you need to go in with goals and make sure you’re putting yourself in the best facility to meet those goals. Every rehab is different and while they all have the broad goal of getting their patients sober and ready to return to the world, they have different ways of meeting that goal and different ways to go on the journey. What any one of these rehab centers offers may not match your own goals, timelines, or needs. Allow yourself to do research to find the one that is right for you.

Are You Looking at Inpatient or Outpatient?

One of the first things you need to consider is whether or not you need inpatient or outpatient rehab options. Inpatient is likely what most folks think of when they think of rehab. It involves a state at a facility, usually for a minimum of a couple of months but can go on for much longer, where you will be kept to a tight schedule and monitored as you work through treatment. These facilities usually have the ability to help someone working through detox as well, but you need to check first as not all facilities are medically capable of treating detox. Outpatient involves going to group meetings and therapy throughout the week while maintaining your normal schedule and home life as much as possible. Many people enter into inpatient rehab before going into outpatient after they complete their initial treatment.

Do You Need Specialized Treatment or Therapy?

Consider if you need some sort of specialization. Different facilities may have specializations in different types of addictions or even in patients who have dual diagnoses. You want a place with a successful track record of treating the type of addiction you’re suffering. On top of that, look into the different treatments and therapies they offer. Some facilities offer art therapy or music therapy which can be hugely beneficial to creative types. Some have therapists that specialize in specific forms of therapy or schools of thought around psychology treatment. You have a lot of options available.

What are the Amenities?

You also want to make sure a facility will be comfortable. While this isn’t a vacation, a place that can offer you adequate meals and fitness options is always a plus. Does the place have adequate common areas for recreational time? Is there a place to spend time outside? Is there a place to exercise? Are the meals going to fit any dietary restrictions you have? All of this should be explored.
