Addiction is a growing problem in the United States. An increasing number of Americans are struggling with substance abuse and dependency or have already lost their lives to addiction. At Mile High Recovery Center, we specialize in long-term addiction therapy programs designed to help you or a loved one regain control and lead a life of recovery.

We understand that addiction is a disease. In many cases, addiction is accompanied by a mental health disorder such as depression or anxiety. This often means that the substance abuse could have begun as a means of self-medication for the mental health disorder or the mental health disorder developed because of the substance dependency.

Mile High Recovery Center in Denver, Colorado, is your destination for addiction therapy. Our experienced staff of compassionate professionals will support you through all phases of treatment and recovery, including detox, residential treatment, outpatient treatment, family therapy, and alumni support afterward. Addiction Therapy Programs

Mile High Recovery Center is experienced in the treatment of many substance dependency disorders. We subscribe to an extended care treatment model that also incorporates community connections. Our trained, professional staff offer a variety of evidence-based, proven therapies in conjunction with more holistic approaches to treatment. Several of these therapeutic approaches are listed below:

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy is a psychological approach to treatment that, broadly speaking, emphasizes changing one’s patterns of thought and patterns of behavior. There is ample research evidence that this approach works. More specifically, CBT is based on the idea that psychological problems are at least partly based on unhelpful ways of thinking and learned patterns of unhelpful behavior. By emphasizing how to change thinking and behavior, the client is provided coping skills that result in meaningful change and progress.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT also focuses on changing thought and behavior. The idea is to first work on the most destructive thoughts and behaviors and move towards positive, affirming thoughts and behaviors. This is accomplished by focusing on tolerating strong emotions, like anger, without acting impulsively or using self-injury or substance abuse to mitigate distress. It also includes strategies for emotional awareness and controlling or adjusting emotional responses, as well as methods for navigating conflict and being more self-aware and self-affirming.

Eye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a psychological therapy approach originally designed to help individuals process traumatic memories. The idea is that the brain, much like the body, wants to heal naturally. The idea is that traumatic memories are blocking the mind from healing. A therapist will have the client recall a traumatic memory while focusing on the movement of their hand or finger; this causes the brain to reprocess the traumatic memory. Naturally, this requires multiple sessions, but research demonstrates that it is possible to reprocess traumatic memories through EMDR in a way that frees the client from negative thoughts and feelings.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

The first part of most addiction therapy programs is detox. It is necessary to get the drugs and alcohol out of the client’s body to begin healing and recovery. Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol often have uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. Medication-assisted treatment is the use of medications to ease the symptoms of withdrawal. Mile High Recovery Center makes use of Suboxone or buprenorphine, but not methadone, another common medication used in addiction treatment.

Meditation

Meditation is an ancient practice for reducing stress, enhancing calm, and aligning the mind and body. There are many different types of meditation, such as transcendental meditation, mindfulness meditation, or zazen meditation, based upon the practices of Zen Buddhists. Some of the many benefits of meditation include:

  • Reduced stress
  • Increased focus
  • Increased awareness
  • Emotional stability
  • Reduced depression and anxiety
  • Improved mood
