Colorado Addiction Treatment That Started With One Sober House

Mile High Recovery Center is a drug and alcohol rehab in Denver, Colorado. We provide residential treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. People in recovery founded the center in 2016. We treat clients from across Colorado, accept Colorado Medicaid and most major insurance plans, and can usually admit you within 24 hours of verifying your benefits.

A message from founder Brice Hancock ยท How one sober house became Mile High Recovery Center

We treat alcohol, fentanyl and other opioids, meth, cocaine and benzodiazepine use disorders, along with the anxiety, depression and trauma that so often come with them. Mile High started as one sober house in 2016. Today there are nine houses and a treatment center, with 12 residential beds, medication-assisted treatment, sober living and an alumni community that meets every day of the week.

Every client gets a plan built around their own situation, because the same program does not work for everyone. We treat mental health and substance use at the same time, with the same team. Our programs run longer than most, and they give clients real freedom paired with real accountability. Treatment continues after you leave the building, and that continuity is what helps people get healthy and stay that way.

Levels of care

Drug, Alcohol, and Mental Health Rehabilitation Programs We Offer

You can start with us at whatever level fits where you are right now. Each level connects to the next, and you keep the same community and clinical team as you move through them. Most clients spend around 30 days or more in residential care, then step down to PHP and IOP over the following weeks and months. The alumni program has no end date.

Referral partners

Medical Detox (Trusted Referral Partners)

We do not provide medical detox on site. If you need to withdraw from alcohol, benzodiazepines or opioids first, our admissions team arranges a bed with a Colorado detox partner we work with regularly, and you come to us as soon as you are medically ready. One call covers both.

What we treat

Substance Abuse Treatment in Colorado for Alcohol, Fentanyl, Meth and More

We provide substance abuse treatment in Colorado for drug and alcohol use disorders of every kind. Most of the people who come to us are dealing with alcohol, fentanyl, meth, cocaine or benzodiazepines, so those programs are the most developed. Whatever the substance, treatment is built around you and runs long enough to matter.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Alcohol is legal and everywhere, and it sends more people into treatment than any other substance. Because it is so normal, a lot of people underestimate it. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous, so we help you arrange medical detox when you need it, and then we treat the drinking and whatever is underneath it.

Fentanyl and Opioid Addiction Treatment

Fentanyl is now involved in most overdose deaths in Colorado. We treat fentanyl, heroin, oxycodone and other opioid use disorders with Suboxone or Vivitrol, individual and group therapy, and support that continues after you leave. With opioids, staying in treatment is what keeps people alive.

Methamphetamine Addiction Treatment

Meth use is rising across Colorado. Withdrawal usually brings paranoia, broken sleep and a deep depression that can last weeks, and we treat those alongside the addiction itself.

Heroin Addiction Treatment

Heroin withdrawal is very hard to get through alone. We arrange detox first, then bring you into residential or outpatient care with a plan for the cravings and for whatever the heroin was covering up.

Cocaine Addiction Treatment

One moment you think you are in control, using it to keep the party going or meet a deadline, and the next moment the drug is running things. Our cocaine program is available in residential and outpatient care, and it runs long enough for the change to stick.

Benzodiazepine Addiction Treatment

Xanax, Valium and Ativan are usually prescribed for anxiety or sleep, and they are easy to become dependent on. Benzo withdrawal can be dangerous, so treatment often starts with medical detox. After that, we treat the dependence and the anxiety or insomnia that led to the prescription.

Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

Adderall, Ritalin, opioid painkillers and sleep medications can become a problem without anyone noticing, including you. We treat prescription drug dependence the same way we treat any other substance use disorder.

Also treating marijuana, hallucinogens, Xanax, Adderall and stimulant use disorders. See all substances we treat

Admissions answers 24 hours a day. Most people are in treatment within a day of calling.

Dual diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis Treatment for Mental Health and Addiction in Colorado

About half of people with a substance use disorder also have a mental health condition. Our dual diagnosis treatment in Colorado covers anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, ADHD and schizoaffective disorder, and we treat them at the same time as the drug or alcohol problem. Treating one and ignoring the other is how people relapse.

Every client gets a psychiatric assessment at admission. Medication management is part of treatment when it makes clinical sense.

Medication-assisted treatment

Medication-Assisted Treatment for Opioid and Alcohol Recovery

Fentanyl and years of heavy drinking change the brain, and willpower does not change it back. Mile High offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) alongside therapy. Our medical team prescribes and monitors Suboxone (buprenorphine) and Vivitrol (naltrexone) to lower cravings and overdose risk. Individual and group therapy deal with why you used.

Medications for opioid use disorder cut the risk of overdose death and help people stay in treatment longer (NIDA). MAT starts in residential if you need it and continues through PHP and IOP. Changing levels of care never means losing your prescription.

How treatment works

Art Therapy

Understanding how food supports mood, sleep and recovery.

Therapy Formats

Why Mile High

Why Colorado Families Choose Mile High Recovery

It started with one sober house

Mile High began in 2016 as a single Denver sober house run by people who had walked this road themselves. That lived experience still shapes every program we offer, from who answers the phone to who leads the alumni groups.

Small by design

We have 12 residential beds. You will know everyone on your clinical team by the end of the first week, and they will know you.

Accredited and verified

Mile High Recovery Center is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by LegitScript. Those are the two credentials families and insurers ask about first.

A continuum that lasts longer than 30 days

Residential is where treatment starts. From there you step down to PHP and IOP with the same clinical team. People who stay in treatment longer do better (NIDA), and our alumni will tell you the same thing.

A community you keep

Hundreds of Mile High alumni across Colorado still show up to groups that run seven days a week. You are part of that from your first day.

Insurance without barriers

We accept Colorado Medicaid and are in-network with most major plans. Cost should not be the reason someone stays sick.

For families and loved ones

Support for Families of Someone Struggling With Addiction

A lot of our calls come from a parent, a partner or a sibling. If that is you, you do not need to have anything figured out before you call. Admissions will explain what treatment looks like, what it costs on your loved one’s insurance, and how to bring it up with them.

Once your loved one is with us, you are part of the program too. Family groups cover how addiction works and where to draw lines, and you meet other Colorado families going through the same first year. Long-term recovery takes a village.

Insurance

Colorado Medicaid and In-Network Insurance Accepted at Mile High Recovery

We accept Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado) and are in-network with most major insurance plans. Cost should not be what keeps someone out of treatment.

In-network means your plan has agreed rates with us, which usually means much lower out-of-pocket costs than out-of-network care. Admissions verifies your benefits before you commit to anything and tells you what is covered, so there are no surprises later.

Once your insurance is verified, we can usually admit you within 24 hours. When someone is ready, waiting a week can undo it.

Your first day

Most clients start within 24 hours of verification. Residential stays run 30 days or more depending on your plan, then outpatient care, then alumni for as long as you want it.
